"Non-broadcast videos make an impact"

Appropriate Technology, Vol 36 No 3, September-October 2009, pp.42-43.

Although television plays an important role in disseminating information, it has its limitations. Another medium, nonbroadcast videos, is able to convey messages in a way that television can't achieve. Glen Williams reports on the 'Strategies for Hope films' which are addressing the challenges presented by HIV and AIDS.

"Ultra Rice wins award"

Appropriate Technology, Vol 36 No 4, October-December 2009, pp.18-20.

Billions of people in the world today suffer from micronutrient malnutrition -- substantially contributing to the global burden of disease, affecting the physical and cognitive development of young children, and dramatically reducing the work productivity of entire populations. Iron deficiency, for example, saps the energy and learning capacity of nearly two billion people. Fortification of staple food, like rice, offers the opportunity to deliver key micronutrients like iron to vulnerable populations. PATH is pioneering this technique with its Ultra Rice.
